Stamicarbon and Maire Tecnimont to Build Egypt’s Largest Urea Plant
Maire Tecnimont has signed a contract with Egypt’s El Nasr Company for Intermediate Chemicals (NCIC) for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of a new Urea Plant in Ain El Sokhna, Egypt.
The new urea plant, with a capacity of 3,100 metric tons per day (MTPD), will be designed to maximize energy efficiency through the integration of Stamicarbon’s Urea2000plus℠ technology.
Urea2000plus℠ is a commercially proven technology that has set the industry standard for energy efficiency. It is based on Stamicarbon’s patented process improvements, which enable lower energy consumption and CO2 emissions, contributing to a more environmentally friendly production of urea.
The project, worth approximately €500 million, will be executed by Maire Tecnimont and Stamicarbon, under a consortium agreement.
Maire Tecnimont will provide the engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and assistance during the commissioning of the plant, while Stamicarbon will provide the urea technology license, proprietary equipment, and technical services.
The new plant is expected to create significant economic benefits for the region, providing employment opportunities and stimulating the local economy.
The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
