Republic of Kazakhstan and its State Agency of Meteorology

The Republic of Kazakhstan is situated in Central Asia and shares its borders with the Russian Federation in the north and west, China in the east, Kyrgyzstan in the southeast, Uzbekistan in the south, and Turkmenistan in the southwest. The authorized state body for hydrometeorology, climate monitoring, and environmental pollution monitoring is the RGP "Kazgidromet" within the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

RGP "Kazgidromet" monitors the environment and climate and provides meteorological services across Kazakhstan. The agency offers tailored services to various sectors, such as the oil and gas industry, aviation, agriculture, and energy, through its specialized divisions.

RGP "Kazgidromet" is Kazakhstan's primary organization for weather forecasts and meteorological observations. Its mission includes:

  • Providing hydrometeorological services to ensure the safety and protection of the environment and population.
  • Developing and implementing state policy in the field of hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring
  • Providing weather and climate information and forecasts, and conducting climate monitoring.

Functions of RGP "Kazgidromet"

RGP "Kazgidromet" has a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Conducting meteorological and hydrological observations, preparing weather forecasts, and issuing warnings about dangerous weather phenomena.
  • Collecting, processing, and storing hydrometeorological data, conducting climate monitoring, and creating climate assessments.
  • Participating in the development of the national environmental monitoring system, including the monitoring of air, surface water, and groundwater pollution.
  • Conducting scientific research in the field of hydrometeorology, developing new methods for meteorological forecasts, and introducing modern technologies into the observation process.
  • Preparing and publishing reference materials, databases, atlases, and other publications on hydrometeorology and environmental pollution.

International Cooperation

RGP "Kazgidromet" actively cooperates with international organizations and meteorological services of other countries. Kazakhstan is a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and actively participates in its programs and projects. The agency also collaborates with the hydrometeorological services of neighboring countries and participates in regional projects and initiatives.
