Ruidoso Wildfires: Current Situation and Evacuations
South Fork Fire
On Monday, around 9 am, the South Fork Fire erupted on the Mescalero Reservation west of Ruidoso, a town of over 7,000 residents. At present, the fire has spread across 3,380 acres of the Ruidosos Mescalaro Apache Indian Reservation.
Evacuations
Authorities have ordered the immediate evacuation of Ruidoso, New Mexico, due to the South Fork Fire's proximity to the town. As a result, Highway 48 and Highway 70 at Apache Summit have been closed.
Blue 2 Fire
In addition to the South Fork Fire, the Blue 2 Fire is currently burning 8 miles north of Ruidoso in the White Mountain Wilderness Area. However, updates on its current status are not readily available.
