National Treasure Wins 2023 Preakness Stakes
A Sixth Preakness Victory for Trainer Bob Baffert
Preakness Stakes Horse Race - Saturday May 20th 2023 Pimlico
For the first time in six years, a horse has won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. National Treasure, another horse trained by the prolific trainer Bob Baffert, won the 2023 Preakness Stakes at 4-1 odds.
The Preakness Stakes is an American thoroughbred horse race held on the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. It is the second leg of the American Triple Crown, following the Kentucky Derby and preceding the Belmont Stakes.
National Treasure's victory gives Baffert his seventh Preakness Stakes win, tying him with the legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas for the most wins in the race's history. It is also Baffert's third Preakness Stakes win in the past four years.
The Preakness Stakes is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbred horses. The race is run over a distance of 1 3/16 miles on a dirt track.
National Treasure is now the favorite to win the Belmont Stakes and become the 14th horse to win the American Triple Crown.
The Belmont Stakes is the final leg of the American Triple Crown, and it is held on the first Saturday in June at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The Belmont Stakes is run over a distance of 1 1/2 miles on a dirt track.
